A completely new era in cycling heralds the first staging of the Salzburg City Hill Climbs in autumn. Because with the innovative format, the Hohensalzburg Fortress becomes the scene of what is probably the most spectacular cycling race in Austria. The route from Kapitelplatz up to Fortress Hohensalzburg is 900 meters long and there is an average of 15% to a maximum of 32% gradient on 120 meters of altitude that the participants have to complete. The route up to the Hohensalzburg Fortress has the perfect characteristics for the new format in cycling, the “City Hill Climb”:

With the “City Hill Climb” we want to bring cycling closer to the audience and the media through exciting competitions. During these city mountain sprints, cyclists can achieve maximum performance over short distances. Additional excitement is created by a new competition mode for road cycling. In the elimination races, the fastest can qualify for the next round. The result is a tournament character that harbors great tension. The entertainment and closeness to the sport are the additional bonus for the audience, who can follow the race in different areas. The event is open to professionals, amateurs and hobby cyclists!

Start is on Thursday, September, 9th, 2021 from Kapitelplatz to Hohensalzburg Fortress. The length of the route is 900 meter and 120 m of climbing. 32 % maximum incline.

Allowed are Road cycling-bikes, gravel-bikes and cyclocross racing-bikes (only with curved racing handlebars)
NEW: Mountainbike: Due to the high demand, athletes can now storm the fortress with a mountainbike on September 9th.
