At the beginning of May the whole MTB-scene meets again for the traditional season opener at Lake Garda, northern Italy. The Mountain bike season 2021 does start again in May as usually with the FSA BIKE Festival Garda Trentino in Riva del Garda (April 28th to May, 1st, 2022). At the last edition (27th anniversary) more than 45.000 visitors and 3000 participants have been in Garda. The focus of the season opener in Riva del Garda is the huge Expo are with more than 160 exhibitors and 300 brands of the bike scene. Our partners offer the opportunity to test products and bikes as well as special fair prices, lotteries and even more. Therefore, each visitor has the chance to get informed about the latest products of the bike scene. An absolute Must for every visitor is the Open Night on Saturday from 7pm to 10:30pm at the Expo area. Exciting side events also provide additional adrenaline kicks. For example, the fastest riders will be determined on 3 different routes at the 'SCOTT BIKE Marathon' on Saturday. In the 'Bosch eMTB Challenge supported by Trek', all motorised athletes can prove their handling between battery conservation, speed and technology. The enduro specialists will show their downhill and jumping skills on Sunday in the ‘Enduro Challenge’: Here is a adrenaline rush guaranteed. Of course, the youngsters will not be forgotten: The little bikers will have the opportunity to show what they can already do and amaze their parents in the 'Junior Trophy' on Sunday. Don´t miss it.

Results

Over 1,300 participants at the Scott BIKE Marathon 2023

At this year's sporting highlight on Saturday, the Scott BIKE Marathon, a total of 1,340 participants took part in three different categories. The Scott BIKE Marathon is a race specially designed for mountain bikes, which takes place every year as part of the BIKE Festival Garda Trentino. There are three distances to choose from, which differ in length, metres in altitude and technical demands. In the highest discipline, the Ronda Extrema, numerous familiar faces started in the first rows, including last year's winner and German champion Andreas Seewald. The starting signal was given at 7.30 a.m. local time in the middle of the old town of Riva to the applause of numerous spectators. The special feature this year: Licensed riders could collect valuable UCI points for the world ranking list on the Ronda Extrema of the Scott BIKE Marathon, because with the "Horse Category" the marathon was listed in the highest race category of the UCI.

In the most demanding race, the Ronda Extrema, which covers frequently changing surfaces, 82.77 kilometres and 3,484 metres of altitude, the riders had to master several steep climbs and technical descents. In the tough fight for the podium, the Colombian Héctor Leonardo Páez León (SOUDAL LEECOUGAN Int.) finally won the race with a lead of 52.2 seconds over Marc Stutzmann (Canyon Northwave) and Andreas Seewald (Canyon Northwave), who delivered a thrilling sprint finish in the final metres. Páez León beat last year's winning time by more than a minute and crossed the finish line after 3:51.16 hours. Stutzmann's time was 3:52.09.0 hours, Seewald's 3:52.09.4. Páez León summarized: "I’m extremely happy with my result at my first participation here, the technical and long course suited me very well."

Last year's winner in the women's race was Adelheid Morath (Team Mount7) with a time of 4:42:44, followed by Janina Wust (BUFF Megamo Team) in 4:54:05 and Katazina Sosna (Torpado Factory Team) in 4:55:10. Morath also praised the "tough as nails" course and the beautiful trails. "I was very happy to be able to participate here again and had a very good day."

The middle category of the Ronda Grande was won by Andrea Zamboni. This course involved 59.56 kilometres and 2,406 metres of altitude. The Italian crossed the finish line more than 40 seconds ahead of the runner -up after 2:54.41 hours. His pursuers Christoph Wachter and Hannes Riegger finished in 2:55.23 and 2:57.20 respectivel y. The women's ranking at the Ronda Grande is led by Rebecca Fondermann with a time of 3:55.29, followed by Nina Gunther with 4:02.55 and Viktoria Erber with 4:22.46. Gusti Wildhaber from Switzerland won the Ronda Piccola, the smallest lap of this year's Scott BIKE Marathon. Here, the participants* covered 30.67 kilometres and 1,065 metres of altitude. For the winner, the race was a close call after 1:18.39 hours with an exciting final sprint and a lead of only 2 seconds. His pursuer Jakob Duckeck finished in 1:18.41. Third place went to Mathias Hesse with 1:18.46. In the women's race, Paulina Lange took first place with 1:38.20. Second was Pia Vogt with 1:42.15,
followed by Melina Mäckle in third place with a time of 1:47.46.

For 28 years now, the Sympatex BIKE Festival Garda Trentino has been attracting mountain bike enthusiasts of all ages from across Europe to Riva del Garda (Trentino, northern Italy). Many cyclists will be coming to the MTB-Eldorado at beautiful Lake Garda for the umpteenth time. The region is one of the most versatile and most beautiful mountain bike destinations in Europe. The planning for the 2022 BIKE Festival is already in full swing. The programme has been slightly modified in several places and optimised in the interests of the visitors, exhibitors and participants. The “Mountain Biking” experience in all its different facets and manifestations is more than ever the basis of this successful event which kicks off the annual mountain bike season. Centre of all activities is the great Expoarea at the Palazzo Congressi, this one directly on the shore Lake Garda lies and is from the picturesque port of Riva only few steps away. The BIKE Festival at Lake Garda is the place where all highlights, novelties, trends and developments are presented to brands and products known as well as unknown, brands and products are presented to the mountain-bikers. Almost all bikes and parts can be tested on the famous Lake Garda-Trails.

SCOTT Mountain BIKE Marathon

Time for changes - the BIKE Marathon in Riva del Garda gets a new face. A lot is concentrated on the three completely new tracks. All three distances are packed with great trails and beautiful panoramas over Lake Garda, but have been reduced in length and altitude. What remains is a demanding BIKE Marathon for the start of the season, but one that can be driven by everyone. For the first time, the track data will be made available to all participants as GPX files before the race and offered for download on the website. So everybody can get familiar with the track before the start and concentrate on the marathon.

For the 2020 edition of the BIKE Marathon, all tracks were completely revised and renovated. The new courses offer absolute driving fun in a great scenery around the northern part of Lake Garda. For beginners and short distance specialists we recommend the Ronda Piccola with its 32 km and 1,069 metres of altitude difference. Ambitious and advanced bikers choose the Ronda Extrema and tackle the 82 km and 3,458 metres of altitude difference. The Ronda Grande offers a healthy mix (58.5 km and 2,381 metres of altitude difference). All marathon routes run on public roads, farm, forest and hiking trails and are well signposted from start to finish. In addition, the GPX data will be made available to participants for the first time before the race in 2020. The route from the start is designed in such a way that delays at the entrance to the first trails are avoided and run smoothly. Start and finish from all distances are in Riva del Garda.

In the Rocky Mountain Bike Marathon recreational, amateur and professional athletes are eligible to participate. Only licence drivers are allowed to start the Ronda Extrema. All of hobby and amateur participants need a medical certificate about their suitability of sport if they will start on the Ronda extrema. This certificate shall on the day of the race not older than 1 year. Participants of the Ronda Extrema need to show a valid health certificate at the accreditation. If a participant can show a valid UCI-Licence they don´t need to show their health certificate. Every Participant receives a transponder during accreditation at the start location to record the individual time, it is obliged to have their start number clearly visible on both their bike (handlebars) and body (on their back) throughout the entire Event. The advertising on the start numbers may not be covered or otherwise rendered unrecognisable. The Transponder must be returned by every Participant to the appropriately signposted point in the finishing area. The Organiser reserves the right to deploy check points for the marathon and determine minimum passing times that depend among other things on the length of the race and the topography of the particular distance. For participants who do not pass the checkpoints and/or do not attain the minimum passing times at the measurement points, the following applies: The participant is automatically out of the standings. If the Participant does continue the marathon, it is done outside of the Event and at the Participant's own risk. 

In 2020 there will be again a large offer of tours at BIKE Festival Riva. Well-known exhibitors will give you the opportunity on the tours, to improve and optimize your driving style and your technique. You can test new bikes on the routes, enhance your driving technique with the professionals, or just dangle your soul on a relaxing trail ride. There is really something for everyone! Also on our Expo Area, the spectators and participants meet famous and large producers of the mountain bike scene. Current models and innovations give a good and wide insight, whether for beginners, professionals or just interested people. All visitors and participants can look forward to more than 150 producers for who it will be a pleasure to advice and offer you test bikes. For an unforgettable close of the BIKE Festival, the Open Night should not be absent. Just like the last time, an extra class evening program can be expected. The Exhibitors give you the opportunity, to train your skills with attractive mini-competitions.
