ŠKODA Titan Desert: Infinite desert
The most spectacular MTB adventure presents its 2022 official route: six stages, more than 600 km and many hours in the tough Moroccan desert. Konny Looser and Ariadna Ródenas will defend their respective titles against contenders such as Josep Betalú and Anna Ramírez. From the 8th to the 13th of May, the most adventurous mountain bikers have an appointment with the challenge of a lifetime. Morocco will once again host the event. A relationship that spans 17 years, since the first edition in 2006, and that was only interrupted in 2020 by the incidence of the COVID-19. Year in which the Titan Desert was held in the only desert on the European continent, Tabernas, in Almeria.
Official ROUTE 2022
RPM Sports presented this week ŠKODA Titan Desert Morocco 2022 official course. In 2022 it returns to its essence and recovers what has always been its identity: the infinite desert. Six days of racing, for a total of 645 kilometers, which will start on the 8th of May with a stage starting and finishing in the town of Merzouga. It will be the third time that the small town in the Moroccan desert hosts the start of the first stage of the ŠKODA Titan Desert Morocco, after 2012 and 2019 editions. More than 600 kilometers of route will separate the riders from becoming titans in their own right. Six stages to reach the region of Maadid, which is the usual end of the race. This year's edition will include new challenges that will test the participants' faculties. Navigation, for example, will be one of the major axes of the ŠKODA Titan Desert Morocco 2022, with different challenges to measure the capabilities of the aspirants.
MAIN CONTENDERS
With participation still open, a few names are already emerging as great favorites to clinch the race victory. In the men's category, Konny Looser, winner in 2021, will try to defend his triumph. In front of him, contenders of the caliber of the ŠKODA Titan Desert four-time winner, Josep Betalú; recent winners, such as Sergio Mantecón or Óscar Pujol; or veterans like Sylvain Chavanel or Haimar Zubeldia. Ariadna Ródenas will seek to defend her title in the ŠKODA Titan Desert 2021 women's category. Her biggest rival, in the absence of the rest of confirmations, aims to be the three-time champion Anna Ramirez. Véronique Fortin and Lex Albrecht, Canadian road champion and runner-up, respectively, will also seek to assault Ródenas' throne.
